Mom + Professional…the struggle is real!

To all the Mom Professionals out there-

First of all- pat yourselves on the back for doing the hardest job on the planet.. Momming! Any job that is not only taxing physically, but also, emotionally, AND involves these people that we love more than anything else in the world..  is THE hardest job.  AND you are working, or building a business along side of the Mom job! Not easy at all and way to go GO!

If you have tiny kiddos you are smack in the middle of the physically taxing job of feeding, carrying, chasing, and perhaps hardest of all- waking to feed or wipe tears in the middle of the night.  Exhaustion carries over into the next day- and so does crankiness (on all parties) ,but you still do your mom and professional job!

If your kiddos are past the tiny stage, and no longer have as many physical demands- that’s great news. Except that the hard mom job doesn’t get easier. The ratios simply shift. Now the EMOTIONAL toll is doubled. Do you have teenage GIRLS? Then you get what I mean! Plus, whether your kids are middle school or early on high school you probably spend a significant amount of time as an uber driver, and on ball fields, at dance competitions, or musical productions. This is when the Mom job is SO fun, but also takes GIANT hours of your day.

AND if you thought it gets easier when they leave the nest and go off to college. Well- I have news for you. The emotion, worry, and stress, just take on new issues from farther away.  The good news is that this is mixed with HUGE exciting, happy, and proud emotions. But it doesn’t mean the Mom job or the mom distractions are over-at all.

All of this to say- Moms who work, we have a lot in common. We worry, are tired, we have emotions, responsibilities, errands, dinners, birthday parties, and more. We love bigger than we ever imagined and would do anything to protect our children.

AND we have jobs that we love (hopefully) and these careers or businesses are incredibly significant and take up so much brain power and are also demanding!

Phew- so how do you manage it all??

We have 1 great solution. Join our Strategic Collaborative for Mom Professionals where will share solutions to getting it all done, new ideas, and have a group of moms who together GET the struggle, the reward, and all the in between.

For instance- at our first meeting one common topic shared by all is the constant distractions that come your way as a Mom in Business. You can have the best plans and then a sick kiddo or any number of issues can change your entire day.  So the question was asked how do I stay focused and motivated?

Great question right?
Here are 3 tips:

  1. Immediately look at your calendar and reschedule whatever you just had to cancel. Even if it was personal work time and didn’t involve anyone else, reschedule this on your calendar so you will KNOW this project, meeting, etc.. will still get done.
  2. FIND humor! Laughter is the best medicine and what else can you do. I have a great story I’ll share on this at our next Strategic Collaborative.
  3. Give yourself grace. Momming and working is a super hero task and you are crushing it. It may not be to the level of your own perfection. Recognize there is no room for perfection and give yourself grace!

And then join us for the Strategic Collaborative for Mom Professionals and continue this conversation, find the support and encouragement you need…and a few new Mom + Professional friends!

  1. Great blog post!

One thing I have to remind myself of regularly is this: Seasons.

I’m really being mindful to keep the season I am currently in, in mind. Right now I’m in a season of healing and re-grounding after a year of trauma in our family. I took 8 weeks to focus on ME and that meant stopping all work for a season.

I’m also being mindful of the season we are in as a family unit. My boys are 10 and 7….their needs are so different than my friends with older kids. For me, this means saying “Not now” to many things so I can be more present with my boys. *But I also make sure to have fun of my own LOL

I think your reminder to give ourselves GRACE is so important! Perfection doesn’t exist. Our kids just want our presence more than the perfectly tidy house or Pintrest table setting/dinner.
