Power Up Your Performance: 5 Simple Ways to Reboot your Energy

Whether you are a small business owner, a corporate executive or you work for someone else…. you know all too well that the demands of your job can take a toll on you physically, mentally and emotionally.

From endless “meetings about meetings,” ….to the pressure to perform/produce/close deals…. to the long hours sitting behind a desk staring at a screen …. to dealing with many different personalities…..it’s not uncommon to feel drained, tired, and unmotivated.

However, boosting your energy level is key if you want to stay on top of your game.

Here are 5 simple tips to help you do just that:

#1 Move your body daily

Regular exercise can help boost your energy levels by improving circulation and reducing stress…Plus, it releases those “happy hormones” that make you feel really good! Aim for at least 30 minutes into your daily routine. This could be anything from a brisk walk to a gym workout.

#2 Fill up on the good stuff

Your daily diet plays a significant role in your energy levels. Think of your body as a Ferrari…. You don’t put Kool-Aid in that gas tank, do you? No way! You put that Dom Pérignon Champagne in the tank. Same goes for your body…. Junk food in = physical fatigue, mental fog, moodiness etc.

You’ll want to focus on eating nutrient dense meals that include plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit, healthy fats, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid processed foods and sugary snacks that can lead to a crash-n-burn.

#3 Get more sleep

It may sound like an obvious one, but getting enough sleep is critical to maintaining your energy levels and not turning into a total jerk because you are overtired. Stick to a consistent sleep/wake time and your body will naturally fall into rhythm. Also, be sure to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

#4 Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

Your brain will function so much better when it is hydrated and you’ll also have more energy because your organs get thirsty too! Not a fan of plain water? Try coconut water or squeeze a lemon or an orange into your water to make it taste better and give yourself some extra nutrients too.

#5 Take a few breaks

Taking regular breaks throughout the day can help you recharge and maintain your energy levels. Try to take a 10-15 minute break every hour or so to stretch, walk around the block, or simply relax. Get outside if you are able to do so. The sunshine and fresh air will do you a world of good.

Let’s Make It Happen!

Now, you may be reading this and thinking to yourself, “This sounds too hard! I can’t possibly do all of these things.” Well the truth is, if you aren’t used to doing any of the above, then of course trying to do them all at once will feel impossible.

Remember that any time you undergo changing a habit and replacing it with a new (and foreign) one, you will come up against internal resistance. Your brain and body want to stay comfortable; they don’t want to get up off the couch! So pick just ONE of the above tips and focus on that one, and that one only.

Once it becomes a habit, then add in one more. Keep at it and once that one, too, becomes a habit, then add in another.

Before you know it, you are going to be a much more energized, healthier and happier person!
