Secret to Solving Your Maze

Daedalus was hired by King Minus of Crete to build a Labyrinth to be used for a prison.  A Labyrinth is a complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult, if not impossible, to find one’s way – think Maze Runner if you have ever seen that movie.

When Daedalus and his son were done constructing the Labyrinth, the King imprisoned them to roam the walls in which they had built.  Since they had built it – they knew there was no way out.

In today’s world we build our own personal Labyrinth with the chaos, the self-created blocks and limits and bias we put upon our lives. The unrealistic expectations, and the societal judgments we let fall upon us.  We are incarcerated in a maze of other people’s opinions, perceptions, and paradigms.

We feel trapped with no way out, walking in circles and getting nowhere.  We feel like the walls shift blocking us in, and we have no control of the circumstances that keep us in these tunnels of responsibilities and obligations.

So we modify our lives, we settle for the mundane and mediocre, we adapt to the conditions and live in the endless maze of twists and turns and deadends.

But we don’t have to.

As Daidalus and his son endlessly traveled through the Labyrinth they began to they adjust their sight, shifted from the current conditions to what is possible.  They found a way out.  They realized that UP was their escape.  So, he and his son built wings of beeswax and branches.

We all need to not let the circumstances, and the obstacles in our way, deter us.  We need to commit to our convictions, not our conditions, and find the innovative approach to our destiny.

“If we worked on the assumption that what is true is really true, then there would be little hope for advance. – Orville Wright

The maze in which we live may be an uncomfortable existence, but it is familiar.  We know what to expect from each passing day.  However, we need to be willing to risk the familiar to find success.

It requires adapting to new and pre-existing conditions, adjusting your pre-conceived notions and ideas and plotting an entirely different course sometimes.  It takes innovation.  You can’t keep circling and hovering in the same position, or running the same maze course, and expect a different result.

You began your journey with a certain end in mind.  You thought you knew the course you would take to get there.  But circumstances, conditions, limitations, and obstacles jumped into your way.  Your over-night success was derailed.

But being delayed is not the same as being denied your success.

Do not let your idealism, your dream that has faded with difficulties, be an excuse to quit.  Respect where you are now and create a strategy to move forward.

As you have probably found out, passion and drive for something you are infatuated with quickly fades as practical day-to-day processes seep in.  You must do countless necessary things, mundane tasks, non-glamorous activities, in order to see your dreams become reality.

Simply having a passion, even talent, or skills is not enough for a business to thrive.  You have to be innovative and have a strategy in place, you have to connect the dots with daily activities to create the masterpiece you desire.  You have to create a foundation and a structure, so your business grows and is well supported.

“Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning.” – Thomas Edison

There is no easy formula for success – but to get out of the maze it will take a combination of desperate innovation, relentless determination, and extreme energy exertion.

It all begins with two things YOU CAN CONTROL:  your attitude and your effort.

I am not just talking about a positive attitude – you to have a constructive attitude.

  • One that doesn’t just HOPE for the best but MAKES the best of where you are and what you have.
  • One that doesn’t just dream, but does.
  • One that doesn’t just plan, but executes.

Take responsibility for your choices, the opportunities around you and the relationships you have and what you do or don’t do with them.

When it comes to effort – it takes more effort to whine and complain, or blame others or the circumstances, then it does to just GET THINGS DONE.

“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.”  – Winston Churchill

You can want something with all your heart.  You can be enthusiastically committed to it, but without effort that is where it will be trapped – in your heart.

Put effort into the process.

“Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day-in and day-out.” – Robert Collier

And that, my friend, is what it takes to find a way to escape the maze we often find ourselves roaming aimlessly in and fighting for a way out.
